Music Review: Say About Me by COSM

It’s a classic “bring-your-own-sun” British summer, and what better way to attempt to brighten the rubbish weather than with some more dreamy indie tracks? Enter COSM, who began to make their appearance on the Falmouth music scene just under a year ago.

They have since become a staple on local gig posters everywhere, as they break out of the confinement of the Killigrew Inn walls. Describing themselves as ‘from both sides of the Atlantic’, COSM combines brothers, Tom (guitar and vox) and Jim (bass), from Virginia USA, with locals Emily (guitar) and Zach (drums).

COSM have been turning heads with their flashy offset guitars and intricate solos. Building up their local repertoire. It will be exciting to see what is next for the band. They’ve just dropped their second single, following hot on the heels of their debut track, Weightless.

Their new track, Say About Me, keeps the same sonic themes, blending sounds reminiscent of Alvvays, Beach House, and that elusive band you can never quite put your finger on. Having heard the two singles, two things are clear at this point.

1) Tom knows how to write a very catchy vocal line

2) Tom loves reverb

The band works together seamlessly to create a rich, full sound. Zach’s clap stack shines through the ambient yet noisy guitar parts, adding a unique touch. Each member is incredibly talented, and they do a fab job of sharing the spotlight. Jim’s melodic bass parts and stunning vocal harmonies add a lot to the band’s sound.

Tom and Emily’s guitar parts each take turns to dance over the top of shoe-gaze-like soundscape, bouncing off one another. I wonder what will take place following the release of these two singles, and I am very excited to see where (dare I say) one of Falmouth’s most promising bands will go.
